Subdivision 2 of the women's qualification has just finished, and as you might have guessed, Simone Biles and the USA are through as top qualifiers.

The quintent of Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Sunisa Lee, and Hezly Rivera earned the top score in all but one of the four apparatus (the People's Rep. of China earned the high score in the uneven bars) to finish with a combined mark of 172.296, which puts them through to the team final on Tuesday.

Another big shock in the day's action following on from Abe's (JPN) loss in the judo - this time in table tennis.

Women's singles 9th seed Jeon Jihee (KOR) lost in straight games 4-0 to Portugal's Fu Yu, with the latter ranked 80th in the world. Jeon, by comparison, is ranked 14th.

There were straightforward wins for both men's and women's world no. 1 players, with Wang Chuqin (CHN) beating Slovakia's Yang Wang 4-1 and Sun Yingsha (CHN) beating Brazil's Giulia Takahashi 4-0.

Cameron Norrie (GBR) has withdrawn from the men's singles competition at Paris 2024 due to injury.

He will be replaced by Petros Tsitsipa (GRE).

I mentioned earlier that South Sudan were making their Olympic debut in men's basketball here at Paris 2024 - well, they've just proved that they're not simply here to make up the numbers.

An incredible performance from South Sudan, whose basketball federation only came into being in 2011.

Over at Chateauroux, the women's 10m air pistol final has just wrapped - and Oh (KOR) has just set an Olympic record to win gold!

The 2023 world cup champion in this event scores 243.2 to claim victory ahead of her compatriot Kim Yeji (KOR). It's the first ever gold medal for Korea in this event.

There's history made for India, too: Manu Bhaker (IND) has just won her nation's first ever Olympic medal in women's shooting, and India's first medal of Paris 2024!

Biles (USA) isn't done - far from it.

After that unbelieavble beam routine, she's now up on the floor - where two moves are actually named after her (that's just how good she is).

A slight step over the line after one landing won't betoocostly, such is the difficuilty of the moves she's producing as she launches herself through the air.

Another monster score: 14.600.

One of the big names of Paris 2024 - Simone Biles - makes her return to Olympic action today, and she has justsmashedher beam routine in women's qualifying.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist didn't suffer a single wobble on the appartus and nailed the landing with the smallest of hops. It's a massive score: 14.733!

The crowd goes absolutely nuts!

One of France's big medal hopes in the swimming has just won his heat in the men's 400m individual medley in a time of 4:08.30, and the noise insideLa Défense Arenawas deafening - and this was just a heat!

Every time the Frenchman's head went above the water in the breastroke leg of the race, the crowd serenaded him with cheers of "Allez!".

Marchand - the world record holder and 2023 world champion in this event - will compete in the final at 20:30 CET this evening.

Belgium have won their game against People's Rep. of China, 2-1.

Ballenghien's (BEL) opener was cancelled out by Chen Yang (CHN), before Charlotte Englebert (BEL) score the winner with five minutes left.

In the other game in women's Group A, Germany lead Japan 1-0 through Charlotte Stapenhorst (GER).

Tokyo 2020 women's -52kg champion Abe Uta (JPN), who hasn't lost on the world judo tour since 2019, is out!

Diyora Keldiyorova (UZB) wins by ippon in the elimination round of 16 - a huge upset!

Over at Invalides - another spectacular venue of these Games - the women's team 1/8 elimination round has just finished, meaning the quarter-final bracket is now set.

The Bright Stars have just taken to the court in the men's Group C contest against Puerto Rico at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, meaning they are now competing in a Olympicbasketball tournament for the first time in history! It's an amazing achievement for the African nation, especially when you consider they only played their first official game in 2017 (an 87-76 loss to Egypt).

Puerto Rico are back on the Olympic hardwood for the first time since Athens 2004.

Hungary get their first win at Paris 2024 thanks to Petra Simon, who finds the back of the net with just five seconds left in the match!

The result means Brazil, Netherlands, France and Hungary all sit on 2 points in women's Group B - though the Netherlands and France have played one game less. Angola and Spain, the other two teams in the group, remain winless.

We're underway at one of the most stunning venues of these Olympic Games - the Eiffel Tower stadium, where the beach volleyball competition is taking place (just check out the shot taken last night below!).

In women's Pool C, Italy are leading the Dominican Republic18-13 in the first set. Both teams are playing in their first match of Paris 2024.

The first handball game of the day has started between Brazil and Hungary - it's currently all square at 1-1in the women's Group B contest.

Brazil are looking to make it two wins out of two after overcoming Spain 29-18 in their first game on Thursday. Hungary are looking to bounce back after losing to defending champions France 31-28 on the same day.

The day's badminton action has just started over at La Chapelle Arena, with matches in men's singles, mixed doubles, and women's doubles.

In Group D, world No.2 mixed pair Feng Yan Zhe and Huang Dong Ping (CHN) are in a tight battle with Terry Hee and Jessica Tan (SGP) - who also happen to be husband and wife.It's currently 13-11 in the first game.

Feng and Huang are the 2024 Asian champions and the 2024 French Open winners, with Huang the defending Olympic gold medallist in this event - though she partnered with Wang Yilyu in Toko.

Thirteen sets of medals are due to be handed out on Day 2 of Paris 2024, including in women's street skateboarding where Brazil'sRayssa Leal is the defending champion. Basketball - South Sudan make historic bow
Barely seven years after playing their first official match,South Sudan's men's basketball team willmake their Olympic debuton Day 2 when they facePuerto Rico(11am).
It's been a remarkable journey for the team representing the world's newest independent state, who earned their spot in Paris by finishing as the best African team at the 2023 FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup.
Team USA also begins its campaign, taking on Serbia (5:15pm; 11:15am Eastern time).

Swimming - Can Marchand end French drought in pool?
Hosts France haven't won gold in aswimmingevent in 12 years since French swimmers won four events at London 2012. On Day 2, one of the nation's biggest hopes this summer,world record holderLéon Marchand, will look to end the drought.
If he qualifies from the morning heats (11am), Marchand will take part in his favourite event, the men's 400m individual medleyfinal (8:30pm), which happens to be the night's first swimming final and could set the tone for the rest of the evening for the home crowd.
There's also themen's 100m breaststrokefinal (9:54pm), whereAdam Peaty will look to defend his Olympic title after having taken time off from the sport.

Moore (USA) advances with a dramatic flury in the final moments of Heat #8

There is a reason why Carissa Moore (USA) is widely considered one of the best competitive surfers of all time. The defending Olympic champion and a 5x World Champion, Moore scored her two best waves in Heat #8 in the final 5 minutes. A feat made even more impressive by the fact that she earned her 9.0 and 7.5 in a span of roughly 90 seconds. Her total heat score of 16.50 was a heat winner and one of the highest of the day amongst both male and female waveriders.

Moore was trailing for most of the heat, surfing behind a very in form Shino Matsuda of Japan. Matsuda's (JPN) 8.33, courtesy of an all but flawless tube ride early in the heat, was the score to beat until Moore, sitting out the back with priority for several minutes, found the wave she was looking for and parked herself deep in a spinning, frothy barrel. She came out with the spit and then, less than two minutes later, paddled straight into another one. It was only after this wicked sequence of waves that Moore was able to move past Matsuda's total score of 11.16.

Teresa Bonvalot of Portugal finished third with a combined score of 10.34.

Moore's win in the final heat of the day means that all 5 Team USA surfers- John John Florence, Griffin Colapinto, Moore, Caity Simmers, and Caroline Marks- have advanced on to Round 3.
