VolkswagenGolf
VW Golf got its name from the warm Gulf Stream, because most of the concern's models are usually named after winds or currents. In 1975, the VW Golf GTI was presented to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show and made a splash. The first version of the car was designed by Italian car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, who created a recognizable image of the model for several generations to come.
At that time, "Golf" had an engine with a capacity of 110 horsepower, which allowed him to accelerate to 100 km / h in 9 seconds. Its maximum speed reached almost 183 km / h. Reliable, compact and economical, the Golf has become very popular in Europe, with sales tripled in its first year. He made his debut in a hatchback body, but over time a convertible appeared, and then a sedan was added, which began to be sold under its own name "Jetta".
In 1984, the sensational model was no longer produced, but the world saw the new Golf - the second generation. The car boasted a slightly updated design, a 112 hp engine. and new chassis. He got options such as ABS and a catalytic converter, the interior was completely redesigned. In addition, an off-road version of the "Golf" - Golf Syncro - was released at the same time. It came off the assembly line in a limited edition, had all-wheel drive and increased ground clearance, that is, it was the prototype of modern crossovers.
The ranks of fans of the brand rapidly replenished. In 1991 it was time for the third generation. This version, again, outwardly, did not go far from the creation of Giugiaro, but was distinguished by improved aerodynamics and was equipped with a two-liter engine and 150 horsepower.
This is what reduced the acceleration time to 100 km / h to 8.3 seconds. The next variation on the iconic Volkswagen model had to wait six years, but it was worth it. In 1997, the first "Golf" version 4.0 rolled off the assembly line, and this time with a diesel engine. By this time, the German concern had brought to mind the safety system for passengers and the driver. By the way, the 25th anniversary of the Golf was remembered for the release of a version with a 180 hp engine.
As for the Golf itself, he was not going to stop there: in 2003, Volkswagen fans were presented with a new version of the model. The buyer could now choose not only between gasoline and diesel engines, but also choose the most suitable gearbox, which was now offered in three versions - automatic, manual and preselective. The fifth-generation sports version of the Golf produced 200 hp and was slightly lower than its predecessors, which had a positive effect on aerodynamic properties, and it just looked great. The design was borrowed from other models: the Scottish style of the interior, the red grille and of course the "GTI" lettering.
2008 - the sixth generation. The embodiment of a rational and economical approach to production. This model has become a thoroughly redesigned version of its predecessor - it has changed externally, received a new interior. The premiere of the seventh and currently the latest generation of VW Golf took place on September 4, 2012 in Berlin. The event was expected and significant for motorists from Europe and America.
According to Volkswagen Group chief designer Walter de Silva, the new VW Golf was created, as they say, from scratch. But no matter what Mr. de Silva says, the seventh generation Golf visually retained the appearance of its predecessors, although its lines became clearer and brighter. There was no revolution in the design of the German bestseller, and it is not common for VW Golf cars to change radically. By the way, last year the seventh generation Volkswagen Golf was named the best car of the year at the annual competition "World Car of the Year".
By the time the fifth generation was released, almost twenty million Golf had already been sold worldwide. The creation of the Wolfsburg automobile industry has become a sign of quality: on the basis of the Golf, they began to build such models as the Audi A3, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia.
